Abstract Background

Skills for Generative Conflict

Practices to support us in relating to conflict as a place of creating more possibilities

Description

We are living in a time of increasingly intense conditions that ask us to show up as all of ourselves. We must increase our ability to take a stand for what we care about, have centered boundaries, interact in request cycles from center, & stay in connection with our dignity and humanity through times of challenge. These skills are all great ideas, but how do we translate them into action? Join me for a 3-hour workshop where we will practice these skills somatically. This means we will use techniques that engage all of our living selves using stance, gesture, contact, and meaning-making. Participants will be invited to feel themselves a little more deeply as we explore: making, declining, & accepting requests -- saying & hearing yes, no, and maybe -- familiarizing ourselves with our conditioned response in situations of pressure -- being in connection with each other without abandoning ourselves -- moving energy toward what we care about. This workshop is not offered by a master. It is offered by a human who does not embody these principles 100% of the time, but is nonetheless practicing toward them. There is no future where we don't have the human experiences of betrayal, hurt, disappointment, and frustration. I believe it is possible to make space for more options for ourselves under pressure by learning from the felt sense of our own aliveness & choosing to practice new ways of being.
